Lymphoedema and Lipoedema

Due to popular demand, the Manchester Vein Clinic can now perform scans for patients who have Lymphodema or lipodema.

Lymphoedema is swelling which is due to a build-up of fluid (lymph) in the limbs which does not drain properly.

We all have a small amount of fluid (lymph) in our body tissues. This fluid leaves our blood system to provide water and nourishment to the tissues. Most of this fluid is collected by a system of drainage tubes, similar to blood vessels, called the lymphatic system.

Lipoedema is an abnormal build-up of fat in your legs and sometimes arms. It can be painful and affect daily life.

For more information on both conditions please see the following websites:

In this assessment, we scan all the deep veins and superficial veins as well as perform an ABPI (Ankle pressure brachial Index) measurement to assess your suitability for class II compression stockings.

As part of this service, we are able to take measurements for compressions stockings and order them on your behalf.

This will be followed by a consultation with our surgeon to discuss the results.
